Listening to lead
Equipping OGCI with a clear, external view of its reputation among those shaping the energy transition

- Stakeholder research
- Strategic insight
- Narrative planning
The Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) brings together major international operators to accelerate collective climate action.
In a complex external environment, the organisation was seeking sharper insight into how it’s viewed by those beyond the oil and gas sector. A previous survey had offered only a partial picture. What OGCI needed was a more independent, rounded view – of its role, credibility and relevance in a rapidly shifting transition landscape.
We designed a qualitative research project focused on listening, not positioning. By engaging directly with 18 high-priority stakeholders – spanning policy, finance, industry and civil society – we surfaced a more complete picture of how OGCI is perceived and where expectations are shifting. The insights now underpin internal planning, narrative development and external engagement strategy.
Stakeholder identification and access
Mapped and secured interviews with influential individuals across sectors and regions – chosen for their relevance to OGCI’s mission and reach.
One-to-one conversations
Held 45–60-minute conversations with each participant, guided by a flexible interview framework tailored to their area of expertise.
Thematic analysis and insight synthesis
Analysed findings to uncover shared perceptions, points of divergence, and practical implications for OGCI’s positioning and narrative.
Recommendations for action
Provided a board-level report outlining how OGCI can build on its strengths, close the credibility gap, and show up with more clarity and conviction.
Project highlights
Surfaced what OGCI’s most influential audiences think it’s doing well – and where it needs to go further.
Insight and recommendations are informing strategic planning, internal alignment and external engagement.
Clarity at a critical moment
The research gave OGCI a clear, honest view at a critical time. It showed how the organisation is seen by those influencing the climate and energy debate, and highlighted what it needs to strengthen its voice and credibility. The insights are helping OGCI focus its narrative, sharpen its positioning, and stay relevant in a space that won’t stand still.
“This gave us the external perspective we didn’t have, and couldn’t get, internally. The quality of insight, and the way it was delivered, helped us cut through noise and focus on what really matters. It’s shaped how we engage stakeholders, frame our role, and plan the next phase of our communications.”
